GETTING CARE
Be informed and make wise use of your time. Tools and resources can help you gage the quality of care and out of pocket costs for care.
Good RX
Use GoodRx’s drug price search to compare prices (just like you do for travel or electronics on other sites) for your prescription at pharmacies near you. We don’t sell the medications, we tell you where you can get the best deal on them. GoodRx will show you prices, coupons, discounts and savings tips for your prescription at pharmacies near you.
Use cost estimators at your plan’s member website or an independent site such as: www.fairhealthconsumer.org
Compare providers and quality of care at your plan’s member website or www.medicare.gov or www.healthgrades.com
HEALTH PLAN LAW
You can only enroll in a health plan certain times of the year:
- Annual Open Enrollment, or
- If you become newly eligible, or
- If you experience a Qualifying Life Event
Not all plans are created equal – understanding the differences in coverage and provider access are key. Choose where you get coverage wisely. You can only get health coverage from the following sources:
- At work (if offered)
- Individual/Medicare Market (renews January 1)
- healthcare.gov (renews January 1)
Have coverage or pay a penalty.
However, some people qualify for an exemption based on income or other factors. For more info, visit: www.healthcare.gov.
Medicare
If you’re working and Medicare eligible or covered by Medicare, you may be able to: retain your employer sponsored health plan, if any, and/or solely elect Medicare and enroll in a Medicare Supplement and Medicare Drug Plan.
Consider your options at work versus those you can obtain individually carefully. Some employer sponsored health plans may require you to obtain both Medicare A & B when you become eligible. And, if you’re covered under an employer plan and Medicare – you may have questions about who pays first.
