3 ways to help save on your medications

Here are 3 tips to help you get medications that work for you — and your budget:
1. Find out if your medications are covered.
To do this, check your Prescription Drug List (PDL), sometimes called a formulary. Your PDL is a list of all medications available to you, organized into cost levels called tiers. Choosing medications in lower tiers may help save you money. Your PDL changes — so check it often. Use it as a guide when you talk with your doctor about your prescriptions.
2. Compare prices.
Did you know you can compare drug costs using the pricing tool on your insurance carrier’s website or www.goodrx.com? It may help you find the best price for your medication in your network. And if a drug isn’t covered, a coverage alert will appear on your screen.
3. Ask your doctor about generics.
Generic medications may have a lower copay than brand-name drugs. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if a generic or lower-tier option might be right for you.
